Our Fire Prevention Mission

Knowledge is the strongest weapon in the fire and life safety educator's arsenal against death, injury, and property loss.  Transferring knowledge to the public, and translating it into simple actions for people to take, is at the heart of the public educator.  The objective of our  fire prevention/life safety program is to achieve a level that truly teaches the community proper messages and behaviors.  Lessons should include solid educational activities that involve the participants in the decision making and learning excersises.  Lessons must be well tested and documented to provide evidence that the resources provided  actually produce something of value for the community and our departments' invested time and efforts.  Having a comprehensive fire prevention/life safety education program means providing educational opportunities in a variety of settings.  Whether in schools, community meetings or events, or through marketing media such as PSA's or printed materials, quality education must be age appropriate and in a form that will capture interest.  Our educational efforts should raise their level of consciousness about safety and ultimately change the behavior of targeted populations to reduce the risk and loss from fire and other injuries.
